Officials in Brunswick County broke ground this week on a new reverse osmosis water treatment plant that will provide a fresh secondary source of clean water to 28,000 residents. When construction is complete by the close of 2021, purified water will flow to all community members with impacts on rates projected to be minimal.
Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO held the ceremony at the plant site located adjacent to US 17 in Belville near Leland. The area has experienced tremendous population growth over the last ten years, making utility upgrades and expansions a top priority. As the project engineering firm, staff from The Wooten Company were among those in attendance to mark the milestone.
“I’m pleased with the high degree of coordination and focused effort that brings us together on this occasion,” said Charles Davis, PE, who managed the project for Wooten. “We appreciate partnering with H2GO to navigate the complexity necessary to serve their community with another reliable source of safe water.”
The aquifer-sourced plant will utilize reverse osmosis technology to ensure what is delivered to customers meets stringent drinking water standards. H2GO recently confirmed financing through First Bank, enabling construction to begin this month. It is a moment nearly a decade in the making.
“We have worked on this project side-by-side with The Wooten Company over the last nine years,” said Bob Walker, H2GO’s executive director. “Their knowledge, expertise, and dedication helped propel this project forward, giving us clear direction and providing valuable assistance along the way. Their commitment to our goal of providing our community with clean drinking water shines through in their work.”
